BC PNP Extends Rural and Remote Health Support Initiative Registration to October 7, 2026

The BC Provincial Nominee Program has extended the registration deadline for its Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative to 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on October 7, 2026.

Registration was originally scheduled to close on August 31, 2026. BC PNP announced the extension on August 13, primarily to accommodate applicants who may have been affected by wildfires.

The additional time may also benefit eligible health authority employees who are still completing their employer support or registration process.

What Is the Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative?

This is a temporary, one-time BC PNP initiative designed for certain cleaning and security workers who are already employed by public health authorities in rural or remote communities in British Columbia.

BC plans to nominate up to 250 people through the initiative.

The first invitation round took place on July 23, 2026, when BC PNP issued 60 invitations to apply, with a minimum registration score of 50.

Who May Qualify?

Applicants must meet the general BC PNP requirements as well as the special conditions of this temporary initiative.

• The applicant must be directly employed by an eligible BC public health authority;
• The applicant must work in one of the following occupations:
• NOC 64410 – Security guards and related security service occupations;
• NOC 65310 – Light duty cleaners;
• NOC 65312 – Janitors, caretakers and heavy-duty cleaners;
• The position must be full-time and indeterminate;
• The applicant must work at an eligible rural or remote location;
• Before registering, the applicant must have completed at least nine consecutive months of full-time employment with the same health authority at an eligible location;
• Formal employer support is required;
• The applicant must generally continue working in the same qualifying position while the registration and application are being processed;
• The applicant must have completed at least secondary school and meet applicable language, income and other BC PNP requirements.

Which Health Authorities Are Eligible?

• Provincial Health Services Authority;
• First Nations Health Authority;
• Fraser Health;
• Interior Health;
• Island Health;
• Northern Health;
• Vancouver Coastal Health; and
• Providence Health Care.

Does the Extension Change the Eligibility Requirements?

No.

The extension only changes the deadline for registration. It does not remove or relax the core eligibility requirements.

Applicants must still meet requirements including nine months of qualifying employment, direct employment by an eligible health authority, an eligible occupation and work location, and employer support.

Registration also does not guarantee a provincial nomination. Eligible applicants must first enter the registration pool, receive an invitation from BC PNP, and then submit a complete application with supporting documents.

What Does the Extension Mean for Potential Applicants?

The extension is particularly useful for employees who already meet the eligibility requirements but are still waiting for their health authority to complete its internal review or employer support process.

Health authorities are not required to support every employee, and individual health authorities may have their own internal procedures for assessing requests.

Eligible workers considering this pathway should therefore begin the employer support and registration process as soon as possible rather than waiting until the October deadline.
